Chen Fenwan
Born in 1990, Chen Fenwan graduated from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts and currently lives and works between Guangzhou and Foshan. As a young artist, she was once praised as a top paper artist by the media. Her interest lies in utilizing traditional folk art techniques, with a particular emphasis on paper-cutting, and exploring the possibilities they present in the world of contemporary art. The results are often large scale, multi-dimensional pieces designed to communicate with a wider audience and inhabit public spaces. Invited to speak at TEDx in 2013, she was named as one to watch by the Chinese Modern Art Archive (CMAA) in 2019. In 2021, Chen’s work was exhibited during the Chengdu Biennale and she became the first artist-in-residence at K11 Select Tianjin for two months.
Many of her representative works have been accumulated through continuous artistic creation. Among them, Energy Map of Mickey and The Inspiration Spreading Project both exhibit in Mickey: The True Original Exhibition World Tour, The West Lake in Vectorial Dynamic was created as a public work through solicitation in the same year. Lucky Garden participates in the 2021 Chengdu Biennale Exhibition, and also the ten-year exhibition of Zhejiang Art Museum in 2019. Floral Infinity was invited by Cartier to exhibit in Power Station of Art Shanghai in 2020. Infinite has been touring exhibited for 11 times from 2018 to 2021.
